NFL Week 3, Jets Vs. Dolphins: It Was Once Tight Ends, Now It Is Big Name Receivers

With 17 straight points, the Dolphins took their first lead of Sunday night. It wasn’t to last long, as the Jets regained the advantage in one play.

On a night when Miami is celebrating, as it were, the two-year anniversary of the team using the now belabored Wildcat formation, the Wildcat proved to be an effective decoy on the Dolphins opening drive of the second half, a 12-play, 73-yard plod emblematic of most Miami scores. It was capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall.

It seemed to be a complete swing of the game, but on the first play of the following possession Mark Sanchez hit Braylon Edwards on a sideline route, but Jason Allen, the corner covering Edwards, fell down, which allowed Edwards to streak the rest of the way for the touchdown. While tight ends were responsible for the third three touchdowns of the evening, with Dustin Keller accounting for two and Anthony Fasano for one, it is wide receivers who have scored the last two.

Of course, while the Jets do get back on top, their winded defense returns to the field to try to stop Miami again with little chance of relief.
