Will Steelers QB Dennis Dixon Land On IR When Ben Roethlisberger Returns?

Steelers QB Dennis Dixon is currently out with torn lateral meniscus cartilage and original reports suggested he would be out a few weeks.

But could the Steelers place him on injured reserve? Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette seems to suggest it’s possible.

The Steelers have no plans to place quarterback Dennis Dixon, who had surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus last Wednesday, on injured reserve this week. When Roethlisberger returns, however, they will have to make room for him on their 53-man roster and are not likely to keep four quarterbacks.
Roethlisberger will be back in Week 6 after the Steelers Week 5 bye.

Head coach Mike Tomlin says Dixon is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Tomlin seemed open to the idea that Dixon could be placed on IR.
