As has been circulated all week, Al Saunders will be the next offensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders, according to Adam Schefter. New head coach Hue Jackson has already placed himself in charge of calling plays, but that doesn’t mean Saunders would be able to take it easy. Al Davis clearly expects Jason Campbell to start launching Jim Plunkett touchdowns on the regular while scampering around like that John Elway kid.
Al Saunders To Oakland As Raiders Offensive Coordinator, According To Report
Saunders and Campbell have worked together before, when Saunders was on the Washington Redskins staff in 2006 and 2007.
Saunders has had success in the AFC West before, putting together an offense that ranked in the top six four years in a row as Kansas City Chiefs OC. Most of his other stints have been brief, so it’s hard to judge how much success he’s had elsewhere. The Ravens offense, his most recent responsibility, hasn’t blown anybody’s mind the past two seasons, ranking around the middle of the league and slipping a little from 2009 to 2010 despite adding Anquan Boldin.
