2011 Super Bowl: Steelers’ Aaron Smith Not Expected To Play Vs. Packers

Pittsburgh Steelers DE Aaron Smith has been off the field since late October with a triceps injury and the team has opted not to place him on injured reserve hoping he would be able to return in a deep playoff run. Well, the Steelers are deep into the playoffs but it appears Smith won’t be playing.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Smith is unlikely to play in the 2011 Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers.

“You can’t help but get frustrated sometimes,” said Smith, the disappointment in his eyes and voice palpable. “Just the fact it takes time; you can’t do anything to speed it up.”

The Steelers have been playing without him for much of the season so this isn’t a significant loss -- or even a loss, really, considering Ziggy Hood’s play -- but it has to be disappointing for Smith, who may be nearing the end of his career.

So the Steelers may be missing two linemen with C Maurkice Pouncey on the offensive side and now Smith.
