Rams Vs. Seahawks: Seattle Moves Into NFL Playoffs With Sunday Night Football Victory

The Seattle Seahawks will become the first team with a losing record to win their division and head to the playoffs. The Seahawks beat the St. Louis Rams on Sunday Night Football pushing their record to 7-9, even with the Rams. The Seahawks held the tiebreaker so they get the playoff nod and will now be hosting the New Orleans Saints in the wildcard round next week.

John Morgan of SB Nation’s Field Gulls says the Seahawks should start QB Charlie Whitehurst over QB Matt Hasselbeck next week against the Saints.

The Seahawks must start Charlie Whitehurst next week. Call it momentum, call it riding the quarterback that got you there, call Matt Hasselbeck still too injured to play if he must, whatever Pete Carroll calls it, the Seahawks must start Whitehurst this Saturday against the New Orleans Saints.

He was hardly a Pro Bowler but he was good enough completing 22-of-36 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown. SB Nation’s Field Gulls says he wasn’t perfect but may give Seattle the best chance to win.

He wasn’t sterling tonight. His method of operation appears to be one read and run. That’s bad, and that has to change if Whitehurst is ever going to develop. But tonight he showed there’s something within in him to give a damn about. He’s not quick but he can leg out a run. He doesn’t have a cannon but he throws a nice deep pass. He played a modest game, within his abilities, and though the Seahawks will need a lot more from Whitehurst if they want to make any kind of run, competence is a necessary hurdle on the path towards quality. I am not excited about Whitehurst, but I am no longer settled on him failing either.

The Seahawks will have a decision to make next week. Check out Field Gulls for more on the game.
