The Houston Texans announced what most everyone had already reported -- Wade Phillips has been hired as defensive coordinator. The marriage makes sense because Phillips has had previous success as a coordinator and Gary Kubiak’s struggled mightily in 2010.
Wade Phillips Is Gary Kubiak’s New Defensive Coordinator, Texans Announce
The Texans defense was the main problem with the team and it appears ownership agrees with that. Defensive coordinator Frank Bush was let go and Kubiak, who has a heavy hand in the successful Texans offense, stayed on. The Texans likely realize they have a high caliber offense and would prefer to keep that intact while working on the defense.
Phillips joins the staff after getting fired as the Dallas Cowboys head coach during the 2010 season. His father, Bum Phillips, also coached in Houston.
