Folks, the bandwagon is full. The Lions continue to be *the* story of the NFL season so far, overcoming a halftime deficit to beat the Bears 24-13 in their return to Monday Night Football.
NFL Week 5 Scores, Bears Vs. Lions: Calvin Johnson, Jahvid Best Spark Monday Night Win
The Lions started slow, but got it going against the Bears to remain unbeaten.
With the win, Detroit moves to 5-0 -- It’s been more than 50 years since the Lions started out undefeated through five games. Chicago drops to 2-3.
• Offensive Player of the Game: Javid Best had the best night of his professional career, rushing for 163 yards on 12 carries. The speed he displayed in breaking an 88-yard TD run (see the video here) will bring tears to your eyes. Strange but true: that run -- the second longest in Lions’ history -- was longer than any run in Barry Sanders’ career.
• Offensive Player of the Game II: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson became the first player in NFL history to score nine touchdowns in the first five games of the season. His 73-yard touchdown catch from Matt Stafford was ridiculous ... just like every touchdown he scores.
• Monday Night Football in FAIL: The Bears offensive line was flagged for nine (NINE!) false starts. Was the dome too loud in Detroit? Whatever the reason, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler couldn't have minded too much. When he did hike the ball, Chicago's offensive line allowed him to be terrorized by the Lions defense.
• What it Means: The Lions and Packers are the lone remaining unbeatens in the NFL, sitting atop the NFC North. Who's ready for that showdown on Thanksgiving Day?
