NFL owners met in Houston on Tuesday and, after awarding Arizona the 2015 Super Bowl, talked about a number of topics, including playing more regular season games overseas. The league first played a game in London in 2007 and has followed suit every year since.
NFL Authorizes UK Games Through 2016
That trend appears likely to continue as the NFL authorized continuing games in the UK through 2016.
As Dan Kaplan of SBJ reports, the NFL didn’t specify London’s Wembley Stadium -- where every London game has been played to this point -- just that there would continue to be games overseas.
Also interesting is that the number of games each year are to be determined. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said as recently as last week that he’s interested in adding a second London game.
Once (or if) the league adds two games, I wonder when it becomes three, and then four...and to the point where we start wondering if they’ll simply relocate a team to London.
