Julio Jones Injury Will Cost Him Practice Time, Status For Week 6 Unknown

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will miss practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. Falcons head coach Mike Smith told Sirius radio today that the team will rest Jones tomorrow, and then re-evaluate his status for practice on Thursday and Friday. His status for the Falcons' week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers is unknown at this time.

Jones injured his hamstring in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's prime time game against the Packers. He injured his hamstring running a deep route in which he was not targeted.

If Jones cannot play on Sunday, wide receiver Harry Douglas appears to be the most likely candidate to take over in the number two receiver spot, on the other side of Roddy White. Douglas has 11 catches for 80 yards this season. Jones leads the Falcons in receiving yards with 358 on 25 catches. His reception total leads all rookies, but Jones has yet to score a touchdown.

Atlanta’s offense has underperformed this season, scoring an average of 20.8 points per game. The Falcons traded a total of five draft picks, including a first- and fourth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, with Cleveland to move up and draft Jones with the sixth pick in this year’s draft.
