We’re done with the first quarter of the 2011 season and we’re moving through the second quarter. The fifth week of the season has come and gone and even though the end of the season is still a ways off, we’re beginning to see who will likely be playing in the postseason, who has an upfield battle to get to the playoffs and who will be watching from home.
Tim Tebow, Calvin Johnson And Five Reasons NFL Week 5 Was Awesome
From Oakland’s win for Al Davis to Tim Tebow, here’s five reasons the fifth week of the 2011 NFL season was awesome.

Before we set our eyes on the Week 6 games, let’s take a look back at the five things that made Week 5 of the 2011 season awesome.
Oakland Wins One for Al
Al Davis died on Saturday and the Oakland Raiders, the team he's at least been a part owner of since 1966, had to turn around and play a tough game on the road against a 3-1 Houston Texans team on Sunday. Whether or not you're a Raiders fan, or a fan of any team that goes through something as tragic as a death in the organization, you were rooting for the Raiders to win one for Al.
At first it didn't look like they were going to pull it off but thanks to two field goals kicked from over 50 yards away by Sebastian Janikowski they were able to stay in the game. Eventually the Raiders offense got moving and the defense was able to force a couple of turnovers, including one last-second interception in the end zone that sealed the deal.
The Raiders were able to win one for Al and regardless of what team you usually root for, you had to be happy for them.
Surprising Teams (Good and Bad)
If you told me the Green Bay Packers would be one of two undefeated teams after five weeks I'd buy that. If you told me that the Lions would be the other undefeated team after playing the Buccaneers, the Chiefs, the Vikings, the Cowboys and the Bears, I would have asked you what you were smoking.
The Lions are indeed 5-0 and are looking every bit as good as their record suggests they are. They aren’t the only surprise team though.
Of couse there's the other kind of surprising team. The 1-4 Eagles turned out not being so dream teamy. The Colts without Peyton Manning are 0-5. And the New York Jets are sitting at a disappointing 2-3.
Awesome Catches
Both Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe had ridiculous circus catches on Sunday. Both passes were tipped and bobbled before the receiver pulled them in, showing unbelievable concentration and physical skill.
Just watch.
Awesome.
Calvin Johnson..... Again
I’m not going to lie, I’m sick of Calvin Johnson. He’s on every highlight real every week. Don’t get me wrong, he totally deserves to be praised for what what he’s done through the first five games of the season, especially considering that coming into the fifth week, he was on pace for 1,284 yards receiving and 32 touchdowns for the 2011 season.
This past weekend, Megatron helped the Lions beat the Bears by 11 points. He racked up 130 receiving yards, a season high, and one touchdown.
This is the first game of the season that he’s scored only one touchdown. Even though he didn’t score two like we’re all used to, he was still awesome.
After Kyle Orton had an abysmal first half against the Chargers on Sunday, completing just six of 13 passes for 34 yards and an interception, John Fox decided it was Tebow time.
Tim Tebow came into the game at the beginning of the third quarter. The score was 23-10.
After a scoreless third quarter, Tebow started to lead his team to a come-from-behind victory. He threw for one touchdown pass and ran for another. The Denver crowd blew up when Tebow came in and that got the whole team moving. At the end of the game, Tebow chucked a ball into the end zone to win the game. The pass fell incomplete but Tebow was the reason that the Broncos ever had a chance.
He’s going to be the new starting quarterback for the Broncos after the bye weekend.
