The last 1-4 team to make the NFL playoffs was the 2002 New York Jets but oddsmakers hold out some hope - and offering odds on it happening - that the Philadelphia Eagles will do it in 2011. The Eagles have struggled with tackling on defense and with turnovers on offense. The result has been a predictable losing skid and a 1-4 record.
NFL Odds And Trends, Week 6: Can Michael Vick Make The Playoffs?
Take a closer look at the lines and odds for NFL Week 5. Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles are 1-4 after five games, and the chances they make the NFL playoffs are slim. How slim? All content courtesy of SB Nation’s odds partners at OddsShark.com.

But does 1-4 doom them to missing the playoffs, as it has done with every other 1-4 team since 2002? The NFL odds say definitely, maybe. "It's a long shot and Bodog has posted the 'yes' answer as a +275 moneyline underdog position (wager $100 and win $275 profit)," said Mike Pickett of OddsShark.com. "But look at the NFC East - there are no dominant teams and if Philly wins in Washington Sunday, they are right in the mix."
Indeed, a Washington loss (and they are 2-9 SU at home against the Eagles the past 11 seasons) leaves them at 3-2 and leading the division. It could be a season where 9-7 or even 8-8 means a playoff spot.
The road trend favors the Eagles in this one but the Redskins have had an extra week of rest coming off their bye. The Eagles head to a bye in Week 7 and they will be hungry to not hit it at 1-5.
However, in pre-bye weeks, the Eagles have struggled to make money for bettors, going 3-8 ATS in their past 11 seasons.
So to say the Eagles could never make the playoffs after a 1-4 start is dangerous, just like many other never say never trends in Week 6 NFL wagering circles. Check out the latest trends and see live Week 6 NFL odds and matchup reports on every game here at Odds Shark.
