Jahvid Best's status is up in the air for the Detroit Lions game against the Atlanta Falcons this weekend after the running back suffered his second concussion of the year last week. It is still unknown whether he'll able to play this weekend, but Lions' coach Jim Schwartz won't rule him out.
Jahvid Best Injury: Status Of Lions RB Unknown After Second Concussion
Jahvid Best is probably best termed as questionable this weekend as he deals with lingering effects related to a concussion. This is the second time the Detroit Lions running back has dealt with a head injury this year.
The Lions traded for Ronnie Brown at the NFL trade deadline for extra insurance if Best is unable to go, but it seems there’s still a decent chance of Detroit’s starting running back being cleared for the game against Atlanta.
“Oh, sure,” Schwartz said when asked whether Best could play this week. “He just needs to pass all his things. But again, it’s a very objective test by neutral doctors. It’s a hot topic in the NFL over the last couple years, and I admire the NFL for the stance that they’ve taken for the long-term health of players. Concussions aren’t ignored anymore. Guys are very aware of what the symptoms are.”
It's worth keeping track of Best's practice status for the next couple of days, but with the Lions' passing attack, there's no telling how much he'll be leaned on either way. On the season, Best has 390 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, but one score and 163 of those yards came in a Week 5 victory over the Chicago Bears.
