Christian Ponder Expected To Start For Rest Of Vikings Season

It was reported earlier this week that Christian Ponder would be replacing Donovan McNabb as the Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback and head coach Leslie Fraizer confirmed that at his Wednesday press conference.

He also said that Ponder is expected to start for the rest of the season for the 1-5 Vikings. This was expected once Ponder replaced McNabb but it’s interesting to hear Frazier confirm that because it means that, for the first time in over a decade, McNabb will be a true backup.

Some wondered whether McNabb would request his release from the Vikings if he wasn’t the starter the rest of the season but it appears that’s not the case. McNabb indicated that he was willing to help Ponder on his transition to the NFL as a starting quarterback.

Good for McNabb. He's been in a tough situation since the Eagles traded him to the Redskins last year and then the Redskins traded him to the Vikings. He's not used to being a backup but it appears he's willing to make that transition.
