NFL Scores Week 4, 49ers Vs. Eagles: Philly Falls To 1-3 Despite Michael Vick’s Huge Day

The 49ers erase a 20-point deficit to beat the Eagles, who are now off to a 1-3 start during a season in which they were considered Super Bowl favorites.

This was supposed to be the week the Philadelphia Eagles turned it around. Didn't work out that way. Facing a mediocre San Francisco 49ers team at home, the Eagles fell to 1-3 after blowing a 20-point lead and dropping a 24-23 decision on Sunday.

The last person who deserves to be criticized for this one is Michael Vick. The much maligned Eagles quarterback actually had a pretty spectacular game, throwing for a career high 416 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 75 more yards. But it wasn't enough to help the Eagles overcome another lackluster performance from their defense and some costly turnovers.

Vick threw one interception, Ronnie Brown fumbled at the goal-line and Jeremy Maclin fumbled in the game's closing minutes as the Eagles were driving toward a potential game-winning score.

Alex Smith was allowed to carve up the Eagles for 291 yards, most of which came in the second half, and Frank Gore rushed for 127 yards on just 15 carries and scored the game-winning touchdown. The 49ers are now 3-1 and have won two straight road games.

Gore's late touchdown allowed the 49ers to come back from what had been a 23-3 deficit early in the second half. But Smith was able to throw a pair of touchdowns to Josh Morgan and Vernon Davis to get the 49ers back into the game.
