Everyone knew after last week that New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was having a special start to his season. Today, against the Oakland Raiders, Welker made that a matter of historical fact.

As pointed out by Bill Barwell of Grantland, Welker has surpassed Terry Glenn in history books for the best yardage total after four games.
We should point out that the Patriots are still playing as this is being typed. Welker had 217 yards on 17 catches last week against the Buffalo Bills. So far today against Oakland, Welker has 158 yards, one touchdown on nine receptions.
Despite a stinging last minute loss last week to the Bills, New England is setting all kinds of records this season. Tom Brady had 1,327 passing yards through the first three games of the season, an NFL record for passing yardage through three games. With 226 passing yards today, so far, Brady could be in the history books again by the end of the season, and Wes Welker will likely be there with him.
