Jahvid Best Injury: People Close To Lions RB Hope He Sits Out Rest Of Season

Will the Detroit Lions lose running back Jahvid Best for the entire 2011 season? It’s possible. Mike Freeman at CBSSports.com reported today that people close to Best are advising him to sit out the rest of the 2011 season after sustaining his second concussion of the year.

Best, a first-round pick in 2010, missed the final four games of his last season at the University of California with concussion-like symptoms.

Losing Best would be big blow to a Detroit team ready to make its first run at the playoffs since 1999 and its first winning season since 2000. They attempted to shore up their running back situation by making a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for Ronnie Brown. That trade was voided by the NFL when Jerome Harrison, who the Lions were sending back to Philly, failed a physical.

Backup running back Maurice Morris would likely take over as the main running back for the Lions in Best’s place.

Keep an eye on the situation and follow the Lions’ season over at Pride of Detroit.
