Having the right quarterback can make all the difference in the NFL. Carolina has Cam Newton, while Washington must rely on an unholy mix of Rex Grossman and John Beck; on this Sunday, Newton's Panthers won, 33-20, because of it.
NFL Scores Week 7, Redskins Vs. Panthers: Cam Newton, Carolina Get Second Win, 33-20
Cam Newton got his second NFL win by leading the Panthers past the Redskins.
Newton threw for 256 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 59 more yards and another touchdown, and helped the Panthers break through in the second half after a field goal swap meet in the first period.
With Grossman waylaid by a fever, Beck went the whole way for the Redskins at quarterback, and his inconsistency hurt the Redskins. He completed just 22 of 37 passes for 279 yards, with both a touchdown and an interception, and also ran for a touchdown and lost a fumble.
Newton committed no turnovers.
Tim Hightower ran for 88 yards in the losing effort, while Steve Smith had seven catches for 143 yards for Carolina.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-5 on the season, while the Redskins fall to 3-3 with the loss.
