Chris Harris Released By Bears After Benching, Trade Request

The Chicago Bears released safety Chris Harris on Wednesday completing a roller coaster ride the last few weeks for the 29-year old veteran.

It started two weeks ago when the Bears benched both of their starting safeties, Harris and Brandon Meriweather. That apparently didn't sit well with Harris who requested permission (which he was granted) to seek a trade from the Bears the following week.

The trade deadline came and went and Harris was not traded. He said he would continue to honor his contract with the Bears and stay in Chicago.

The Bears had others plans announcing on Thursday that he’s been released.

Harris now hits the waiver wire where every NFL team will have an opportunity to claim him (and his contract). If he goes unclaimed, he becomes a free agent and available to sign with any team.
