The Leigh Bodden era is over in New England. The Patriots released the 30-year old cornerback on Friday morning, Pro Football Talk reports. Bodden had been with the Patriots since the 2009 season.

Pats head coach Bill Belichick didn’t confirm Bodden’s release at his Friday press conference, according to NFL Network.

Belichick didn’t confirm the Bodden release ... but when asked about his play, BB said, “I think we’ll skip that one right now.”

Bodden was originally an undrafted free agent signing with the Cleveland Browns in the 2003 NFL season. He stayed in Cleveland for a few years before getting sent to the Detroit Lions in a trade in February 2008. He played with the Lions during their 0-16 season and was released after the season.

From there, he signed a one-year deal with the Patriots before the 2009 season and earned a four-year contract extension reportedly worth $22 million. Unfortunately for both sides, Bodden was placed on IR before the 2010 season.

He’s been active in five games this year and started one.
