Niles Paul, rookie receiver for the Washington Redskins, was fined $20,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Rams return man Austin Pettis last weekend. Pettis didn't call for a fair catch and Paul arrived at the same time the ball did causing him to slam into Pettis.
Niles Paul Fined For Hit On Austin Pettis; Rams WR Says He Should Appeal
Redskins receiver Niles Paul was fined $20,000 for a hit on Austin Pettis during a return in Week 4 but the Rams WR says he should’ve called for a fair catch instead.
Here’s video of the play:
Paul said after the game that he thought he lead with his shoulder and you can tell in the video that he tries to do that. Unfortunately for Paul’s wallet and Pettis’ head, his helmet came in first. Pettis was defenseless, as well, so it was an easy flag for the officials to throw.
The NFL took a look at the play and on Wednesday handed Paul a whopping $20,000 fine but Pettis didn’t seem too concerned about it when he tweeted to Paul on Wednesday.
damn bro they hit u deep in the pockets....appeal it I shoulda called for the fair catch lol! That’s all bad
As we learned with Ochocinco, it doesn’t matter if the opposing player says he shouldn’t be fined. Paul will pay up either way.
