ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that oft-injured safety Bob Sanders is not expected to continue his playing career.
The longtime Indianapolis Colts standout and 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year has struggled with injuries in five of the last six seasons. Prior to his Defensive Player of the Year season, Sanders was limited to just four games with a knee injury.
Signed to a five-year, $37.5 million that included $20 million in guaranteed money late in his impressive 2007 season, Sanders missed most of the 2008 season with a ankle sprain and a knee injury. Sanders appeared in two games in 2009 before landing on injured reserve with a torn left biceps and lasted just one game in 2010 before going on injured reserve with a torn right biceps.
Released by the Colts in February, the 30-year-old Sanders signed a one-year contract with the Chargers prior to the lockout. In two games with the Chargers, Sanders totaled 12 tackles.
