If Ben Roethlisberger was ailing against the Titans, he didn't show many ill effects. The Steelers quarterback, who suffered a foot injury last week against the Texans, threw five touchdown passes in Pittsburgh's easy 38-17 victory over Tennessee.
NFL Scores, Week 5: Steelers Trounce Titans, 38-17, As Ben Roethlisberger Has Field Day
Ben Roethlisberger’s five touchdown passes propelled the Steelers to an easy win over the Titans.
Roethlisberger threw for 228 yards to go with his five scoring passes, and distributed them nicely: two to Hines Ward, one each to Mike Wallace, Heath Miller, and David Johnson. Jonathan Dwyer, spelling the injured Rashad Mendenhall, ran for 107 yards for the Steelers.
The Titans just couldn't catch up after falling behind 21-3 by halftime and 28-3 midway through the third quarter. Chris Johnson had a rushing touchdown, his first on the year, but the Titans were ineffective on the ground, and Matt Hasselbeck struggled to find receivers, completing just 29 of 49 attempts for 262 yards and a touchdown.
Amusingly, though, Pittsburgh punter Daniel Sepulveda’s one throw for 33 yards netted him a better passer rating than Hasselbeck — and Roethlisberger.
With the win, the Steelers run their record to 3-2 in 2011. The Titans fall to 3-2 on the season with the loss.
