NFL Scores, Week 5: Patriots Ground Jets, 30-21, With BenJarvus Green-Ellis

BenJarvus Green-Ellis gave New England sudden life on the ground, and helped the Patriots ground the Jets in Foxboro.

It's not often that the New England Patriots can lean on their running game to beat teams. That they did so against Rex Ryan's New York Jets in a 30-21 victory seems even stranger.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis was the star of the day in Foxboro, running 27 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns, and helping the Patriots fend off a Jets rally by figuring in a clock-killing fourth quarter drive. Tom Brady had 321 yards passing and a touchdown, but the Patriots didn't need his passing yards as much as they normally do.

When not getting run over by Green-Ellis, the Jets were failing to make much of a dent against a Patriots defense that has been remarkably pliant all season. Mark Sanchez threw for two touchdowns, but just 166 yards, and Jets runners combined for a mere 97 rushing yards.

With the win, the Patriots move to 4-1 on the season. The Jets fall to 2-3 with the loss.
