NFL Scores Week 8, Chargers Vs. Chiefs: Philip Rivers Gags, Kansas City Wins In OT

The Chiefs are tied for first in the AFC West after a big Monday Night Football win against the Chargers on Halloween.

Look out, AFC West -- the Chiefs are a serious division contender. Or at least they are in the standings after Week 8 of the 2011 NFL season. Kansas City beat the Chargers on Monday Night Football and the Chiefs now are tied for first in the AFC West with San Diego and Oakland.

Kansas City won 23-20 on a Ryan Succop field goal in overtime. It was the Chiefs’ fourth consecutive win after losing three straight games to open the season.

Philip Rivers is the goat after fumbling a snap when the Chargers seemed to have the game on ice with a minute left in the fourth quarter.

How It Happened: After jumping out to a halftime lead, the Chiefs stalled in the second half and almost watched the game slip through their fingers. But San Diego continued to turn the ball over, sloppy play that eventually cost the Chargers the game when Matt Cassel led the Chiefs down the field in overtime for the game-winning field goal.

The Turning Point: Rivers inexplicably fumbled a snap with the Chargers killing the clock to set up what would have been a potential game-winning field-goal attempt. The Chiefs recovered, giving Kansas City a second life and extending the game to overtime.

Defensive Player of the Game: Tamba Hali terrorized the Chargers offensive line all night, racking up sacks, hurries and drawing penalty after penalty. The Chargers could not block him.

Photo of the Night: Happy Halloween! Antonio Garay won the night by turning his hair into a Jack-O'-Lantern.
