Some familiar names and some new faces took home the NFL Player of the Week Awards for the AFC and NFC for week 8. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Eagles running back LeSean McCoy lead the list of winners after big performances led to big wins for both teams.

Roethlisberger, the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, passed for 365 yards and two touchdowns as the Steelers beat the New England Patriots. Those were the most passing yards of any quarterback in week 8, and the highest single game total for Big Ben this year.

On the other side of the ball, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson led a resurgent Chiefs defense that beat the Chargers and took control of the AFC West lead. The AFC Defensive Player of the Week, Johnson led his team with ten tackles, a sack and an interception. Johnson's interception set up a scoring drive that gave the Chiefs a 10-0 lead.

Cincinnati return man Brandon Tate earned the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week Award. Tate returned three punts for a total of 73 yards and four kicks for a total of 113 yards. The highlight of Tate's day was a fourth quarter, 56-yard punt return touchdown that helped bury the Seahawks for another Bengals win.

Over in the NFC, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy led the league in rushing yards for week 8 with 185 yards on the ground. He also scored two touchdowns as the Eagles continued to turnaround a rough start to the season with key win in a division matchup against Dallas.

Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril's big day against the Broncos earned him the NFC Defensive Player of the Week Award. He sacked Denver quarterback Tim Tebow twice and forced two fumbles. He recovered one of those fumbles for a 24-yard touchdown.

St. Louis Rams rookie defensive end Robert Quinn played a big part in his team's stunning upset of the New Orleans Saints. The highlight of his day was a blocked punt in the second quarter. That gave St. Louis the ball on the Saints' 15-yard line, which they punched in for a touchdown and a lead they would not relinquish. The play earned Quinn the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week Award.
