Adrian Peterson will reportedly miss Sunday's Minnesota Vikings game at the Atlanta Falcons, and could miss more. The Vikings star running back was hurt in Sunday's loss to the Oakland Raiders with what was later learned to be a sprained ankle.

Peterson only carried six times for 26 yards on Sunday before getting hurt, but did score a touchdown. After leaving the game, Toby Gerhart received the bulk of the carries. Gerhart, a second-year player out of Stanford, ended up with just 18 yards on seven carries. The Vikings' leading rusher ended up being quarterback Christian Ponder, who rushed five times for 71 yards. Wide receiver Percy Harvin had five carries for 21 yards.
The Vikings are currently the NFL’s fifth best rushing team, averaging 143.1 yards per game. The bulk of that, though, is the product of Peterson’s work. Peterson has accounted for 61 percent of the Vikings’ rushing yards and scored 11 of their 13 rushing touchdowns. Harvin is actually the team’s second-leading rusher, with 224 yards. No other running backs have a rushing touchdown.
