Sunday's game between the Chicago Bears and the Oakland Raiders featured plenty of offensive dysfunction. Caleb Hanie and Carson Palmer combined for four interceptions on the day, relying on big plays versus anything resembling consistency. It is not surprising, then, that the kickers ruled the day.
NFL Scores Week 12, Bears Vs. Raiders: Sebastian Janikowski Set Franchise Record In Win
Sebastian Janikowski set an Oakland Raiders record with six field goals during Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears. Caleb Hanie struggled for Chicago in place of the injured Jay Cutler.
Sebastian Janikowksi set a Raiders record with six field goals on the days, splitting the uprights from 40, 47, 42, 19, 37 and 44 yards away. Not be done entirely outdone, Bears kicker Robbie Gould hit two long range field goals of his own, making from 50 and 53 yards out. If Gould had a few more opportunities he may have out-dueled Janikowski, but the Bears' struggles on offense would be their undoing, leading to a 25-20 Raiders win.
Receiver Johnny Knox provided a spark for the Bears offense, helping out backup quarterback Caleb Hanie with an 81-yard reception in the fourth quarter and a 29-yard touchdown catch in the second. Knox's heroics couldn't completely overcome the shortcomings of his quarterback, however, who accounted for three interceptions. Carson Palmer wasn't spectacular under center for the Raiders, but he made few mistakes managing over 300 yards passing on a day when the running game struggled.
