For the second month in a row, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the NFC Offensive Player of the Month. No surprise. All Rodgers has done is effortlessly led his team to an undefeated start to the season. In all four of his October games, Rodgers passed for 300 yards or more, completed at least two touchdowns and sports a quarterback rating of 110 or better. Cruising toward an MVP award, Rodgers is the first player in the history of the NFL with 2,300 passing yards and 20 touchdowns in his first seven games. Going back to December of last season, this is the third Player of the Month Award for Rodgers, the only player besides Barry Sanders to accomplish that feat.
Aaron Rodgers, Arian Foster Among NFL Players Of The Month
For the second month in a row, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the NFC Offensive Player of the Month. Texans running back Arian Foster won the AFC award.
In the AFC, Houston Texans running back Arian Foster was named the Offensive Player of the Month for October. Foster led the NFL with 809 yards from scrimmage last month, including an AFC-best 499 rushing yards and 310 receiving yards, tops among NFL running backs for October. Foster last won the Player of the Month Award in September 2010, a season in which he led the NFL in yards from scrimmage.
A pair of sack specialists picked up the AFC and NFC Defensive Player of the Month Awards. Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley had 25 tackles, 7.5 sacks and one interception during October, helping Pittsburgh win their last four consecutive games. Woodley led the Steelers defense in a big win over the Patriots last week with two tackles and two sacks.
Jared Allen has been a bright spot for the Vikings this season. The NFC Defensive Player of the Month registered 20 tackles, eight sacks, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in October. He had at least one sack in all five of Minnesota's games last month. Allen is the first Vikings defensive linemen to earn a Player of the Month Award in more than a decade.
Last, but certainly not least, are the Special Teams Players of the Month. No surprise that in the NFC that player is Bears return man Devin Hester. This is his record 11th time to win the Special Teams Player of the Month Award. Hester returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown last month, the only player in NFL history to do so. The punt-return touchdown was his 11th, a new NFL record.
Jets KR Joe McKnight earned the NFC award. The highlight of McKnight's month was a 107-yard kick-return touchdown. He returned 11 kicks for a total of 443 yards. He leads the NFL with an average of 40 yards per kick return.
