Falcons Vs. Colts: Julio Jones Scores Twice As Atlanta Blows Out Indy

Some Jim Caldwell at 1/2 time from Colts PR -- On Dallas Clark being out. “We’ll make some ajdustments.“The injury occurred in the second quarter while Clark was trying to make a catch. He had two receptions for 21 yards before leaving the game.

Matt Ryan completed just five of his first 14 passes, so he might want to consider looking toward Jones more in the second half. You might want to consider watching these Julio Jones touchdown videos from today. They’re awesome.

Update: Jones only caught one pass for one yard in the second half.

The Indianapolis Colts are on the board. Cornerback Jerraud Powers picked off Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan at the six-yard line, taking the ball six yards to put the Colts on the board. Here is the video of the pick six.

That was Powers’ first interception of the year, and only the fourth time the Colts have picked off an opposing quarterback. It cut into the Falcons’ lead, making it 21-7 with the clock winding down on the first half of the game.

This catch was originally ruled incomplete, but the Falcons challenged and the call was reversed.

Gonzalez has been exceptionally durable throughout his career, missing just two games over the last 15 seasons and none since being traded to the Falcons in 2009. Gonzalez was able to practice fully before the end of the week, and his absence on Wednesday can be chalked up to the team being cautious and giving the veteran a day off as the team returned from it’s bye week.

One season after finishing 13-3 and atop the NFC, the Falcons lost that many games before November. But Atlanta won its last two games before a Week 8 bye, including a 23-16 win over previously unbeaten Detroit.

Perhaps the Colts will win a game at some point this season — they’ve been close a few times — but there’s simple principle in sports betting that applies to a game like this: never bet against a streak. Especially a streak that look like it’s definitely going to continue.

The experts are unanimous across all the different platforms, and they’re picking the Falcons. The eight football bros at ESPN are all picking the Dirty Birds, as are the guys at Yahoo! and at CBS.

It should come as no surprise that the Falcons are heavy favorites this week, with most lines giving Atlanta somewhere around eight points. While the Falcons have struggled at times, a bye week in the run-up to this weekend’s game and a struggling opponent led to the line slanted heavily in their favor.

The over-under for Sunday’s matchup is set at 44-1/2, which is a pretty normal number for an NFL game.
