Wes Welker Injury: Patriots Wide Receiver Driven To Turf On Shoulder, Stays In Game

Wes Welker's been one of the NFL's most productive receivers in 2011, but he's also dealt with the dings and bruises of being a possession receiver. The injury he just sustained against the Giants may be the worst the Patriots wide receiver has had this season, but he didn't even leave the game for a play.

Welker caught a short pass over the middle from Tom Brady late in the second quarter against the Giants, and was brought down by Michael Boley such that his weight came down on his right shoulder. Welker was visibly uncomfortable, and stayed down briefly as his Patriots teammates waved to the sideline to get him medical attention.

But Welker didn’t leave the game, not for a play or the drive, as the Patriots used a timeout to avoid having to sit their fleet-footed receiver for even one snap. Even for a player who is regularly hailed as gritty, this may be a new peak of resilience.
