NFL Week 9 Debrief: Packers, 49ers Cruise (Again) And Things Look Ugly In Indy

Cardinals fans were freaking out after that. It’s always fun to look at the comments of an SB Nation blog when a big play happens in the game. The Ravens looked like they might not be able to lead the late comeback when a sure touchdown to Smith on a long bomb from Joe Flacco went right through the rookie receiver’s hands.
Smith redeemed himself just a little while later though, hauling in a 26-yard touchdown pass -- despite pass interference -- to cap off a five-reception, 71-yard night and secure a rare Ravens victory in Pittsburgh.

And of Denver’s 21 unanswered points to close the game, Tebow scored zero.
The win pushes Denver to 3-5 on the year. Oakland falls to 4-4 with the loss.

After scoring a touchdown to cut the Green Bay Packers’ lead down to a two touchdowns, the San Diego Chargers recovered an onside kick with a little more than seven minutes remaining. They recovered the ball on their own 45-yard line. On the following drive, Phillip Rivers connected with Vincent Jackson for a 29-yard touchdown pass that cut the Packers’ lead to just a single touchdown.

New England Patriots running back Danny Woodhead was shaken up late in Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants after taking a blow near the end of a play. Woodhead was headed out of bounds when he was folded up awkwardly, and stayed down following the hit. After staying down and being attended to, Woodhead walked off under his own power.
Woodhead has been splitting time with BenJarvus Green-Ellis in the backfield, rushing for 26 yards on seven carries against the Giants. It’s unclear what caused Woodhead to stay down, but he appeared to be shaken up on the play, which came as the Patriots were driving late in the fourth quarter, down four to the Giants.

Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris intercepted Carson Palmer at the end of the third quarter to set up a game-tying touchdown from the Broncos’ offense. After returning the pick for 15 yards, Denver had the ball on their own 40-yard line. On the second play of the ensuing drive, running back Willis McGahee broke through the middle for a 60-yard touchdown run. Check out the video of the play:
McGahee’s touchdown knotted the score at 24 points apiece. It also made McGahee the Broncos’ leading rusher in the game, for now. He has 119 yards on 17 carries halfway through the fourth quarter.

The St. Louis Rams offense has been able to move the ball today against the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately, they have not been able to put the ball into the end zone. The Rams’ defense on the other hand, is having no problem finding the end zone. The defensive line has sacked Cardinals quarterback John Skelton TWICE in the end zone for two safeties in the third quarter, giving the Rams a 13-6 lead in the third quarter.

The Denver Broncos have few highlights to show for their efforts against the Oakland Raiders so far today. In what may come as a surprise to the Detroit Lions, those highlights have been provided by quarterback Tim Tebow. Tebow just threw his second touchdown pass of the day, slicing into the Raiders lead and putting Denver within striking distance at 14-17. Tebow connected with wide receiver Eddie Royal for a 26-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. See for yourself:
Tebow reached 100 passing yards with that throw. He is now nine-for-20 with 100 yards passing and two touchdowns. On the ground, Tebow is approaching 100 rushing yards. He has 67 yards on nine carries in the game so far.

Welker entered Week 9 with a neck injury, and was questionable to play today.

But Welker didn’t leave the game, not for a play or the drive, as the Patriots used a timeout to avoid having to sit their fleet-footed receiver for even one snap. Even for a player who is regularly hailed as gritty, this may be a new peak of resilience.

Getty ImagesBeck threw for 254 yards, but on a staggering 47 attempts, and found Roy Helu Jr. so often on checkdowns that Helu became the new franchise leader in receptions for a game with 14 catches. This did not sit well with more than a few Redskins fans, but Helu did, at least, have 105 yards on those catches.
The 49ers improved to 7-1 in the 2011 NFL season with the win, while the Redskins dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

Don’t look now haters, but Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is having a good game. Granted it is still quite early, but he just led a scoring drive to give the Broncos a 7-3 lead over the Oakland Raiders. The highlight of the drive had to be Tebow’s 32-run around the left end. Check out the video of his breakaway after you finish Tebowing.
Three plays later, Tebow hit wide receiver Eric Decker for a 27-yard touchdown that gave the Broncos the lead.

The annoying part of it was Bradford was under zero pressure and his man wasn’t open. In fact, he didn’t even have total single coverage, as another defensive back was still underneath the throw. Live and learn maybe.
