NFL Scores Week 9, Jets Vs. Bills: Mark Sanchez, Defense Propel New York In 27-11 Win

The Jets clamped down on the Bills, and could be tied for the AFC East lead by the end of Week 9.

Don't look now, but the New York Jets have a winning streak going and a formula brewing. Against the upstart Buffalo Bills, the Jets enhanced both in a 27-11 win.

Mark Sanchez did enough to help the Jets, but not too much, throwing for 230 passing yards and a touchdown. Jets runners had 126 yards on the grounds. New York's fierce defense limited the Bills to just a field goal and a garbage-time touchdown. And Joe McKnight gave the Jets a big play on special teams with a 59-yard return.

All that added up to a victory that could put the Jets in a three-way tie for the AFC East lead, depending on how the New England Patriots fare this evening. But it also amounted to confirmation of a formula that seems to work for New York: the Jets are now 4-0 when scoring 27 or more points in 2011, and remain unbeaten when holding teams under 30 points.

It’s nothing surprising for a team with more defensive talent than offensive firepower. But it is a blueprint.

The result moved both the Jets and Bills to 5-3 in 2011.
