After the Minnesota Vikings released Donovan McNabb there was a thought that a few teams might be interested in his services as he hit the waiver wire including the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.
Donovan McNabb Goes Unclaimed Off Waiver Wire, According To Report
As it turns out, nobody wanted him. According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, McNabb was not claimed off the waiver wire.
This means he’s now an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any team. If a team had claimed him, they’d also be claiming the roughly $1.5 million remaining on his contract.
This makes me wonder about McNabb. Will he play for any team this year? And will he play ever again? He's 36 years old and probably wants to be a starter, which is going to be hard to come by. Three teams -- Eagles, Redskins and now the Vikings -- have dumped him in the last two years which doesn't bode well for his future chances at a starting job.
We’ll see if anyone shows interest in McNabb for the final five weeks of the regular season. He still could make sense for a couple of those teams missing their starting quarterback (like the Texans or Bears), even in a non-starting role.
