Aaron Rodgers Named 2011 AP Male Athlete Of The Year

Aaron Rodgers won the Super Bowl in February and helped lead the Packers to a 13-0 start this season, which has helped him land the AP’s Male Athlete of the Year.

It's been a good year for Aaron Rodgers. Not only did he win a Super Bowl last February with the Green Bay Packers, he also started off this season winning 13 straight and putting up numbers similar to some of the greatest seasons of all time.

And for that, Rodgers was named the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year. He finished with 112 of the 212 votes followed by Detroit Tigers P Justin Verlander, tennis player Novak Djokovic, Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton and NASCAR's Tony Stewart.

Rodgers’ run to the Super Bowl last year was impressive but his numbers this year are in another world. He’s currently on pace for one of the greatest seasons in NFL history completing over 68 percent of his passes and has 4,360 passing yards with 40 touchdowns to only six interceptions.

Rodgers is the third NFL quarterback to win the award in the last five years behind New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (2007) and New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (2010).
