Wade Phillips is back with the Houston Texans as defensive coordinator and it couldn't come at a better time. Phillips left the team a couple weeks ago to have kidney and gall bladder surgery and the Texans have struggled mightily in his absence losing to the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts.
Wade Phillips Returns To Texans After Surgery
The Texans are saying they plan on having Phillips in the press box for Sunday's season finale against the Tennessee Titans.
“Wade was at work today for a couple hours, met with the players and went through the game the other night. I’m hoping that’s kind of the process here leading into this weekend,” Kubiak said. “Our goal would be that he would be in the press box on Sunday, but we’ll also see how he feels. A couple hours in the office today looked good.”
The Texans are locked in as the AFC’s No. 3 seed in the playoffs so the Texans really aren’t playing for anything at this point, which means Sunday is just as much about getting comfortable with Phillips back as it is winning. The Texans enter the playoffs the following week on wildcard weekend and they’re capable of making a run. The defense, when Phillips is around, is among the league’s best, which will make any game competitive.
