Coming off back-to-back losses to the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts -- two non-playoff teams -- the Houston Texans are looking to gain some momentum heading into their first appearance in the NFL playoffs. Part of that may include getting perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson back on the field for the regular season finale against the Tennessee Titans, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Andre Johnson Injury: Texans WR To Return In Week 17
“Our expectations are for (Johnson) to be back on the field on Wednesday, so we’ll see how it goes,” Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said. “I’ve got to watch him practice this week and see how he’s doing, but today was a step in the right direction.”
Johnson caught 25 passes for 352 yards and two touchdowns in three-plus games before injuring his right hamstring in the second quarter of a 17-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4. That injury kept Johnson out for six games. In his second game back, Johnson caught four passes for 97 yards, but injured his left hamstring, causing him to miss the last three games.
“I think that’s why he needs to come back and play this week — just to get on the field and get some reps — but I’ll have to watch what’s going on because we definitely want him two weeks from now,” Kubiak said.
Regardless of the outcome of the Titans game, the Texans are locked in as the No. 3 seed in the AFC Playoffs.
