The San Francisco 49ers signed Braylon Edwards before the season and it looked like a good move because Edwards was seeking a long-term deal and players who are in contract years tend to have extra motivation to perform well.
Braylon Edwards Waived By San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers signed Braylon Edwards before the season but have decided to release him before Week 17.

But things haven’t worked out exactly the way they were planned and Edwards announced on his website Tuesday morning that the 49ers have waived him.
I was released today by the 49ers due to my injury that required more time to rehab and hasn’t allowed me to re-sync with the offense. I wish the 49ers organization the best of luck during the Playoffs. I will be working hard this off season to strengthen my knee and prepare for the 2012 season. Thanks for your continued support and for being such loyal fans.
Edwards was a non-factor in San Francisco as he played in nine games and had just 181 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He was expected to be a much larger piece of the offense but never found his groove (and the injury didn’t help).
It sounds like Edwards plans to continue rehabbing his knee in the hopes he’ll be ready when free agency hits in March.
