The New England Patriots survived in Week 16 by beating the Miami Dolphins but they may have lost an offensive lineman in the process. Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports that Logan Mankins suffered a MCL sprain on Sunday and he will miss the Patriots Week 17 game against the Buffalo Bills.

The Patriots first round bye will come in handy for Mankins. Assuming he doesn’t play next week, he will have had three weeks of rest before the Patriots first playoff game. Rapoport reports that he hopes to return for the playoffs.

Mankins is arguably the Patriots best offensive lineman so anytime he’s not out there, it’s not good. The Patriots still have something to play for next week as they hope to secure the AFC’s No. 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Matt Light was inactive last week so after Mankins went down the Patriots put in players like Donald Thomas and Marcus Cannon. That offensive line depth has resulted in offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia receiving plenty of praise for having his guys ready.

The Patriots host the Bills in Week 17 and they’ll do it without Mankins. Check out SB Nation’s Pats Pulpit for more on Mankins and his injury.
