Raheem Morris: ‘I Will Never Fire Myself’

Embattled Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris doesn’t think he should be fired. A lot of people disagree with him.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris finds himself on the hot seat with the team mired in a nine-game losing streak. However, Morris doesn't think his job is in jeopardy.

If he were in charge, according to the St. Petersburg Times, he wouldn’t fire himself (via National Football Post).

”I think I answered this question a couple weeks ago, I will never fire myself. You don’t go from being a Coach of the Year candidate to being the worst coach in the league to get fired within a year. It’s about us. It’s a little bit of everything.

“I believe in my guys. I believe in the system. I believe in the program. I believe in what we do and everybody in this building. It’s a buying-in factor. Either you buy in or you don’t and we want to build this thing young and we want to develop a team that goes out and wins and wins consistently.”

Rick Stroud, the same writer whom Morris was speaking with, said on the NFL Network this week that he disagrees with Morris’ take on the situation.

“I think [Morris’ future in Tampa is] probably more than a little bit in doubt,” Stroud said. “Regardless of what happens on Sunday, it’s most likely that Raheem Morris won’t be asked to return next season.”

Morris is in his third season as head coach of the Bucs and has posted a 17-29 overall record.
