Fire Raheem Morris? Not So Fast, Ronde Barber Says

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have now lost nine straight games and it seems everyone, from media to fans, would place head coach Raheem Morris on the hot seat entering the offseason. One player, though, doesn't think that should be the case.

Veteran CB Ronde Barber told the Tampa Tribune that he would consider walking away from the Bucs if Morris is fired.

“I would be lying if I didn’t say that,” Barber said when asked if his future was linked to Morris’. “That’s somewhat true. But we’ll see. Ideally, I’d love to be back and play with (Morris), and (secondary coach) Jimmy (Lake) and (linebackers coach) Joe Baker. They’re great coaches and they’re fun to be around. They understand me and I understand them. So I imagine that will have something to do with it.”

Barber has been in the league 15 years and is a staple of the Bucs so his words mean more than, say, a practice squad player. That said, the Bucs won’t make a decision on their future based on what a 36-year old player, who won’t be around much longer anyway, says. Nothing against Barber -- it’s just that this decision is based on the next 5-10 years and not the next 5-10 months.

We’ll see what the Bucs decide to do but a lot of folks in Tampa are awaiting Black Monday.
