James Starks Injury Update: Mike McCarthy Believes Packers RB Will be Challenged To Practice On Wednesday

A day after the Green Bay Packers edged out the New York Giants, head coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media and said that running back James Starks would be challenged to practice on Wednesday. This would likely make him fairly questionable to play this Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

Starks was forced out of Sunday's win over the New York Giants in the second quarter as he aggravated his right ankle sprain. Starks injured the ankle on Thanksgiving and appeared to reinjure against the Giants. He finished the game with three carries for five yards. Ryan Grant replaced him in the backfield, rushing 13 times for 29 yards.

Starks had emerged as the busier of the two running backs, but this will slow him down for the near future. If Starks is unable to go on Sunday, or is even limited in his participation, Grant will be the primary workhorse back with Kuhn continuing his goal line work. Of course, given how the Packers generally use the run versus the pass, it might not really matter who is back there handling the carries in their 29th ranked rushing “attack.”
