NFL Scores Week 13, Chargers Vs. Jaguars: Philip Rivers, San Diego Win Monday Night Football Rout, 38-14

Philip Rivers and the Chargers ended their mid-season slump and put the brakes on a six-game losing streak, beating the Jaguars on Monday Night Football.

Philip Rivers broke out and the Chargers stormed into Jacksonville and spoiled the welcome party for the Jaguars new ownership and interim coach Mel Tucker. Rivers threw for three touchdowns and nearly 300 yards, carving up the Jags in a 38-14 win on Monday Night Football.

The win ended a six-game losing streak and kept the Chargers slim postseason hopes alive.

Jacksonville fought back from a 10-0 deficit in the second quarter behind Blaine Gabbert, but Rivers went off through the air at the end of the half to get San Diego some separation with a pair of touchdowns in the final minute. Then the Chargers put the game away pretty early with another touchdown in the third quarter before there was just kind of some semi-meaningless football to be played late into the evening until the clock ran out.

It Was Over When: The lightning strikes at the end of the first half hurt, but the Jaguars were finished when Philip Rivers came out of the locker room at halftime and found wide receiver Malcom Floyd for a 52-yard touchdown to push the Chargers lead to 31-14. The Jaguars never pushed back.

Offensive Player of the Game: Philip Rivers finished with three touchdown passes -- to three different receivers -- and nearly 300 yards. He was on, and he made the big plays the Chargers needed to put this game away.

Obligatory Tebow-centric Moment of the Game: Nice sign, lady!

What It Means for the Chargers: With the win, San Diego improves to 5-7. The Chargers sit just two games back of co-division leaders Denver (with whom San Diego split the season series 1-1) and Oakland (who San Diego faces again in Week 17). Never say die, Philip Rivers. The AFC West is too mediocre for that.

What It Means for the Jaguars: No miracle morale-boosting win for the Jaguars in their first game under interim head coach Mel Tucker. Jacksonville falls to 3-9, which is at least a win in the draft position battle. Hey, good time to pay attention to the 2011 Heisman Trophy Finalists List.

Random Lasting Image of the Game: Take it away, Mike Tolbert.
