Fred Davis, Trent Williams Officially Suspended For Redskins’ Final Four Games

It was reported last week that Fred Davis and Trent Williams would be suspended by the league four games for a failed drug test and on Tuesday the players were finally told of the suspensions. The two Washington Redskins players will begin serving their suspensions immediately, which essentially ends their season (unless, you know, the Redskins make the playoffs).

Davis and Williams were part of a group of 11 players that reportedly tested positive in the grace period shortly following the end of the NFL lockout in late July and early August. However, as SI.com reported last week, the latest positive tests came during the season, and not that grace period, which was at least the third violation under the policy. the previous CBA resulted in a year-long suspension for a third test but because of the grace period negotiated by the league and NFLPA both players wil come with shorter suspensions.

The SI.com report came down last week but the league hadn’t informed the players yet so they played in Week 13. Starting next week they’re suspended four games and with only four games left in the season they’re done for the year.

The Redskins season is over as far as any playoff talk is concerned and losing Davis and Williams won’t help. Davis leads the team in both receptions and yards while Williams is arguably their top offensive lineman.
