New York Giants offensive lineman Stacy Andrews has been placed on injured reserve after suffering blood clots in both of his lungs over the weekend, Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger reports.

New York Giants offensive lineman Stacy Andrews was placed on injured reserve with blood clots in his lungs.
According to Garafolo, Andrews’ ordeal began with shortness of breath, pain in his ribs and trouble sleeping on Thursday night. Following practice on Friday, Andrews spit up blood. It wasn’t until the pain reached intolerable levels during Saturday’s team meeting that Andrews informed the team’s training staff, who brought him to the hospital.
The club ruled Andrews out of Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers and informed the veteran that his season was over.
”I was like, ‘Wow.’ Even when I was in there with (Giants assistant trainer) Leigh (Weiss) and the nurse, I said, ‘Why don’t I just take a pain shot and play the game tomorrow?’, said Andrews. “I was joking, but I really wanted to play in the game.”
Andrews, 30, is unsigned for 2012 and was replaced on the 53-man roster by former Indianapolis Colts second-round pick Tony Ugoh, who was most recently with the Detroit Lions.
