On Monday, news broke that Michael Vick would appear on Oprah for an episode that would tape next week. Today, we find out he’s canceled the interview. Kind of a buzzkill, right? Worst case scenario, it would have been epically awkward. Best case, it offered golden opportunity for Vick to win over some of his fiercest critics; just think about it.
Michael Vick Cancels Interview, Tells Oprah She’s Barking Up The Wrong Tree
At least in theory, no demographic hates Vick more than the people that watch Oprah, and nothing could change their mind faster than an endorsement from the Big O, herself. ‘Course, I don’t blame Vick if he started to get a little suspicious about Oprah’s motives in all this.
She apparently bet 200 British pounds with CNN’s Piers Morgan that she could land the interview before he did, but Vick asked her to cancel the bet, because he can’t be associated with gambling. And maybe because he felt a little insulted, or maybe because he realized he was setting himself up for an ambush, Vick’s pulled the plug altogether.
It would have been much cooler if he’d accepted the interview and forced Oprah to split her profits from the bet, went on the show, bought puppies for every audience member, and won over America’s housewives while exploiting Oprah at the same time. But you know, there’s still time. Vick’s not going away, stupid dog puns aren’t going away, and neither is Oprah. There’s still time.
