Cowboys Stadium Seating Issues At Super Bowl XLV May Leave Some Standing Up

This evening, the Steelers, Packers and tens of thousands of fans will be hosted at Cowboys Stadium. This state-of-the-art facility has been lauded for its groundbreaking "things to sit on" technology, but some initial hiccups are to be expected. The Chicago Sun-Times' Sean Jensen tweeted that some Super Bowl fans will not have seats.

NFL issues statement saying that there are seating issues inside the stadium and they are trying to resolve. The madness continues...

Statement: “Fans who are not accommodated with seats inside the stadium will each receive a refund of triple the cost of face value”

So core issue is, obviously due to ice/ weather, some temporary seating they planned to install wasn’t...

OOPS. I have no idea how this was only made public two hours before kickoff. Minutes after Jensen’s tweets, the NFL released a statement:

There are a limited number of sections in temporary seating areas inside the stadium that have not been fully completed. We are working to resolve the matter and expect that by game time most of the fans affected will have been accommodated in their seats or relocated to similar or better seats. Those fans that are affected by this will be directed to the Party Plaza area while the matter is resolved. Fans who are not accommodated with seats inside the stadium will each receiver a refund of triple the cost of the face value of their ticket. We regret the situation.

This is pretty unbelievable. CNBC’s Darren Rovell tweets that this “might be the biggest ticketing fiasco in the history of sports,” and I while I don’t know if I’d go that far, Super Bowl tickets are the most sought-after tickets in sports. Tickets imply seats. This is about as fundamental a screw-up as could be.
