Bruce Matthews Hired As Tennessee Titans Offensive Assistant By Mike Munchak

Bruce Matthews, Hall of Fame offensive lineman for the Tennessee Titans franchise since the latter years of their Houston Oilers period, has joined his former linemate Mike Munchak on Tennessee’s coaching staff. Matthews was drafted by the Oilers one year after Munchak, and the two played alongside each other until Munchak’s 1993 retirement. Matthews kept playing for almost another decade.

What is it about people remaining in the Titans organization forever? Jeff Fisher coached there for 17 years, Munchak has had no other employer since 1982, and now Matthews heads back home after coaching with the Houston Texans and the high school his kids attended at the time.

Here’s how long Matthews played in the NFL: he played against both the Baltimore Colts and Baltimore Ravens.

The Titans inked Matthews to a two-year contract. He’ll also get to coach his son, Kevin Matthews, a Titans practice squad center.

Tennessee still has several spots on its coaching staff left to fill. How are they going to find enough coaches with quarter-centuries worth of experience in the franchise to stock the rest of the open positions?
