2011 NFL Schedule Arranged With Three Weeks Of Lockout Buffer

It was a pretty bittersweet moment when the 2011 NFL schedule was released, with the NFL lockout pooping all over any joy the sports fan may have felt at seeing a list of games that may not ever actually be played. All that money and all those highlights, just sitting there not existing.

The NFL apparently thought about this when constructing the schedule, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter and cohorts have deduced. This is pretty brilliant.

It just so happens that each team shares its bye week with its Week 3 opponent, meaning each game that week could be moved to replace a bye in the event the lockout lasts into Week 3. What about the first two weeks? Well, we're talking about the St. Louis Rams playing a Monday Night Football game, so it's not exactly like the league front-loaded this schedule anyway.

Roger Goodell has previously said the Super Bowl could be moved around if need be, depending on the labor situation, so it’s not like the NFL hasn’t admitted its considering this stuff when planning out its season.
