The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were apparently invited to participate in HBO's Hard Knocks, a documentary which follows a team during training camp. They seem like a good candidate to be on the show because they are a young, up-and-coming team that could compete for a playoff spot in 2011.
Bucs Decline Hard Knocks; Who Should HBO Target Next?
Though they were invited, the Bucs now say they won’t be on Hard Knocks.
After discussing the idea and carefully considering the opportunity, we have respectfully declined. It was certainly an honor to be considered, and we think it is a good indication of the excitement and national interest that is forming around our team. This year, however, we believe it is in the best interests of the team to keep the focus on the field and what we hope to accomplish in 2011.
Rumors have been popping up for a few months now that the Bucs could be on the show. I wonder if the various legal issues we’ve seen with players and front office employees in the organization has changed their tune on the show knowing that those legal issues would be a focal point of the show.
So if the Bucs won’t do it, who should? Here are my top four choices:
1. Raiders -- How entertaining would this be? I can't imagine they would actually do it but the secrecy of the silver and black would be my top choice for Hard Knocks in the future.
2. Jets - Yes, they did it last year but it was must-watch every week (though some would argue that). I enjoyed watching it with the Jets and my second choice would be to see them return.
3. Cowboys -- Dallas has also been on Hard Knocks before but they have a bunch of players that would be entertaining to watch starting with WR Dez Bryant.
4. Patriots -- This would only be entertaining if the Patriots didn't clam up while on camera. They have the reputation of that a secretive organization so shining a light on Bill Belichick and the rest of the Pats would be really cool to see.
