If you were going to construct your own NFL wide receiver, it would probably be someone who is 6’5” and about 235 pounds that can run the 40-yard dash in the 4.3-second range. Then you would want a great nickname to go along with it, perhaps “Megatron”.
Lions’ Calvin Johnson Is ‘Too Damn Good’ To Avoid Double Coverage
Yes, I just described Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson. You can make the argument he's the best receiver in the game and he's absolutely in the discussion for top three receivers in the game. He's that good.
Apparently Johnson's teammate, WR Nate Burleson, feels he's that good as well. Burleson talked this week about a theory making the rounds in Detroit that their second round pick, WR Titus Young, will take some of the double teams off of Johnson.
The problem, Burleson says, is that Johnson is simply too good -- too damn good -- to have any pressure taken off of him.
"No, (Johnson's) just too good. He's just too damn good,'' Burleson said. "Occasionally you'd see a team throw one-on-one coverage out there and they'd get burned. No, no matter what talent we surround him with, he's going to attract the attention. No matter how many people you put on the Lakers, Kobe Bryant's still going to get double-teamed. Calvin is that type of individual, he's one of the best in the game and he's always going to get that type of coverage.''
There you have it. Megatron is too good to avoid double coverage.
